Professors Peydró and Reynal awarded ERC Consolidator Grants

Two BSE Affiliated Professors, José-Luis Peydró and Marta Reynal-Querol, have been selected as recipients of Consolidator Grants from the European Research Council (ERC).

Consolidator Grants are awarded to mid-career top researchers in order to strengthen independent and excellent new individual research teams that have been recently created. The sole criterion for project evaluation is the scientific excellence of the researcher and research proposal.

A total of 19 ERC grants have been awarded to BSE affiliated researchers since the program began.

Since the competitive ERC calls began in 2008, BSE Affiliated Professors have been awarded 19 grants for projects on topics such as international capital flows, labor markets, school choice, asset bubbles, globalization, family economics and political economy:

  • 9 ERC Starting Grants for promising researchers just establishing their careers
  • 4 ERC Consolidator Grants for mid-career researchers
  • 6 ERC Advanced Grants for established research leaders

ERC Consolidator Grant recipients 2014

José-Luis Peydró (PhD, INSEAD) is ICREA Research Professor at UPF, Research Associate of CREI, and BSE Research Professor. He is Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and IESE Public-Private Sector Research Center. Professor Peydró is Associate Editor of the Review of Finance (journal of the European Finance Association) and the Spanish Review of Financial Economics (journal of the Spanish Finance Association).

He has been an advisor to the Bank of Spain's Financial Stability Department since 2011 and previously worked at the European Central Bank. His book, Systemic Risk, Crises and Macroprudential Policy, co-authored with Xavier Freixas and Luc Laeven, will be published by MIT Press in June 2015.

Marta Reynal-Querol (PhD, London School of Economics) is ICREA Research Professor at UPF and Affiliated Professor at the BSE. She is also Research Fellow of CEPR. Professor Reynal is member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Conflict Resolution and the European Journal of Political Economy, and member of the Council of the European Economic Association (EEA). 

In 2008, Prof. Reynal was the recipient of an ERC Starting Grant for her project, "Causes, consequences, and prevention mechanisms of social conflicts." In 2011, she recieved the Banco Herrero Prize for the most outstanding Spanish economist under 40 years old. In addition to her research activities, Prof. Reynal directs the BSE's Master in Economics.
