Central bankers, risk managers, and analysts attend BSE's course on systemic risk and prudential policy
Economists, consultants, and researchers from the public and private sectors attended the first edition of the Barcelona School of Economics continuing education course on Systemic Risk and Prudential Policy from May 16-19, 2012 at the School's Ciutadella Campus (UPF).
A total of 26 participants from 11 countries attended the inaugural edition of the course. Among them were economists from eight central banks, including the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank; consultants from Accenture and Oxera Consulting; and researchers from the Bank for International Settlements and Ecuador's Banking and Insurance Authority. Five of the participants are alumni of the BSE's master programs who are now working economists at institutions such as HM Treasury in the United Kingdom or the Austrian Institute of Economic Research.
The participants spent four intensive days covering topics such as Contagion, Financial Globalization, Monetary Policy, and Pervasive Incentives. Other sessions focused on models and measurement, or specific case studies of financial crises.
Direct contact with experts in financial stability, real estate, and asset bubbles
The Systemic Risk and Prudential Policy course is part of the BSE's continuing education offer for executives, professionals and academics. The course's objective is to present state of the art research on systemic risk and to illustrate its implications for micro and macro prudential regulation.
To achieve this objective, the course involves direct contact with instructors who are renowned experts on the session topics and have written books, advised international organizations, and consulted at central banks on the same issues that they covered in the course.
