Career Services trip to Frankfurt connects students with ECB, EIOPA, and alumni

This January, BSE Career Services organized the second annual trip to Frankfurt for Master's students. The one-day agenda was packed with presentations at the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), as well as a networking event with the local chapter of BSE Alumni.

The trip gives the students first-hand insight into the day-to-day working life and work culture, as well as the opportunity to ask questions to the current employees. This will help them make decisions about their future career path and also strengthen their application if they choose to apply to either the ECB or EIOPA.

A total of 23 students from five of the seven Master's programs participated in the trip, which illustrates the broad range of career interests covered by the visit.

50 BSE Alumni working at the ECB

The ECB has long been a target employer for BSE Master's students. Around 50 of them are currently working across the institution. Some were hired as trainees immediately after graduation, including seven in the Class of 2019, five of whom participated in the Career Services Frankfurt trip last year.

This year's ECB visit included presentations from the Directorates General for Statistics, Research, and Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability, as well as a discussion on recent economic developments in the euro area. Students also had a networking coffee with ESRB trainees.

EIOPA, a great fit for skills obtained in the Master's

At the EIOPA, students got an overview of the institutions tasks and functions and then attended sessions on Financial Stability and Consumer Protection. One BSE alum is currently working there as an expert on financial stability, and the institution would welcome this year's students to apply for open positions.

Informal networking with the Alumni chapter

Students took advantage of the trip to enjoy an informal networking dinner with BSE Alumni living in Frankfurt. Fourteen alumni attended the event. In addition to catching up on fond memories from Barcelona, this gave students the chance to get a more personal perspective on working at the ECB as well as in financial institutions such as ING, tech companies such as Ginmon, or international organizations such as the German Football Association.

On-campus networking opportunties

The Frankfurt trip is just one of many opportunties organized by Career Services. Students who were not able to attend the trip could still take advantage of two on-campus sessions with ECB speakers during the year, as well as recruiter talks with other target employers from Germany who have traveled to Barcelona in the past few months to meet BSE students.
