Congratulations Class of 2024 on your Graduation!
On July 15, 2024, the Barcelona School of Economics held the 17th edition of the Master’s Graduation Ceremony at the AXA Auditorium in Barcelona.
Family, friends, faculty, and students from all over the world gathered to view the ceremony in person or through BSE’s live stream. The day celebrated the hard work and success achieved by the Class of 2024.
Two ceremonies were held this year, one for Master’s degrees in Data Science and Specialized Economic Analysis and the other for the Master’s degree in Economics and Finance. Both opened with a welcome message from Francesc Moreno, Catalonia Distribution Director from AXA, followed by words of encouragement from BSE Director, Teresa Garcia-Milà.
Learning how to evolve after graduation
A keynote speaker was invited to talk at each ceremony to offer words of advice to the new graduates. For the ceremony of the Data Science and Specialized Economic Analysis students, Maurici Lucena, Chair and CEO of the Board of Directors at Aena, spoke about the ever-changing times, and how individuals with highly technical qualifications, like graduates from BSE, are more appealing professionals and citizens who have a better understanding of navigating an incredibly complex world.
The keynote speaker for the Economics and Finance ceremony was Antonio Cabrales, Research Chair in Economics at Carlos III University of Madrid. Cabrales spoke about the environment and the impending threat of climate change to emphasize the importance of the graduate’s future careers to make a true difference in society. Cabrales told the recent graduates “You have done good work, but that is not the end…..Your positive impact on our society is going to be a huge deal”.
Following the keynote speakers, Helena Ramalhinho, UPF’s Vice-Rector for Internationalization, highlighted the international background of the graduates with over 57 countries represented at the ceremony. Xavier Ramos, UAB’s Vice-Rector for Economy, then echoed sentiments similar to Lucena about the strong foundation BSE has provided for their future careers.
After the speeches, the graduates went up to the stage to collect their certificates from the members of the panel.
Student Voices
The ceremonies were concluded with speeches from alumni and recent graduates. For Data Science and Specialized Economic Analysis, the alumni speaker was Samantha Catalina Guerrero (CRM ‘18). Guerrero spoke about her experience post-graduation and what the graduates can prepare for as they take on their careers.
“You’ll meet interesting new people from around the world, travel to new places, and solve very challenging economic problems,” said Guerrero.
For Economics and Finance, Dean Curry was the alumni speaker (Econ ‘15). Similarly to Guerrero, his message contained glimpses of what the graduates can look forward to with an emphasis "to lean into" what BSE has taught them.
“The skills you’ve learned over the last year are going to prepare you for anything that comes your way,” said Curry.
There were also four student speakers from the Class of 2024. Kyla Jo Endenburg (CRM ‘24) and David Hilton Frankel (ITFD ‘24) spoke about the importance of their support systems and the community that the graduates made with each other. Luca Orsini (Econ ‘24) and Jacob Pereira (Econ ‘24) spoke about the difficulties that they faced throughout their time at the BSE and how they conquered these challenges.
