CREI Launches Bi-Annual Macroeconomics Lecture Series
On June 17-19th, the Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional (CREI) launched a bi-annual lecture series devoted to macroeconomics. The first edition of the series was given by Robert Shimer (U Chicago).
The lecture series, founded with support from Princeton University Press, aims to bring young but already senior speakers to the Barcelona economics community. The lectures will provide a high-level summary of recent work that has already had a large impact on the profession.
Professor Shimer discusses his research in labor markets and business cycles
The lectures were held at the main campus of the UPF in Barcelona in the new Wellington building, site of CREI and the central offices of the GSE. In addition to the bi-annual lecture series, Princeton University Press has agreed to publish a series of CREI Lectures in Macroeconomics.
Professor Shimer gave the opening lecture on “Labor Markets and Business Cycles”. A professor at the University of Chicago, Shimer is best known for his work on unemployment and search and matching frictions on the labor market.
He graduated with a BA from Yale in 1990, and holds a PhD in Economics from MIT. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Shimer taught at Princeton University. He is a co-chair of the NBER Economic Fluctuations and Growth “Macro-Perspectives” group, and has served as editor of the Journal of Political Economy since 2004.
CREI, one of the four academic bodies of the BSE, is a research center promoted by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the Government of Catalonia.
