More doctoral students receive funding thanks to Severo Ochoa Excellence Program

PhD students in the BSE community benefit from increased funding opportunities because of the School's Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditation.

La Caixa-Severo Ochoa International Doctoral Fellowships

For the fourth consecutive academic year, doctoral students have been awarded La Caixa-Severo Ochoa International Doctoral Fellowships to support their PhD studies in one of the two doctoral programs organized jointly with the Barcelona School of Economics: the Graduate Program in Economics, Finance and Management (GPEFM) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the International Doctorate in Economic Analysis (IDEA) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The fellowships are financed by "La Caixa" Foundation and will provide the students with funding over a four-year period.

The "La Caixa" Foundation supports doctoral fellowships at those institutions which have received the Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditation. The Severo Ochoa Program was launched in 2011 by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness to promote frontier research and distinguish those institutions that are defining the global scientific debate. The BSE is the only center in the social sciences that has received the Severo Ochoa accreditation. The School received its second Severo Ochoa accreditation for 2016-19.

Support from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness

Doctoral students in the BSE community now have the opportunity to receive funding from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The Ministry provides financial support to students at Severo Ochoa accredited institutions who are working toward obtaining a PhD.

The 2016 recipient of this funding is Augustin Tapsoba, a doctoral student in the IDEA PhD Program.
