Esther Duflo will deliver BSE Class of 2020 graduation keynote
Economics Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo will address the Barcelona School of Economics Class of 2020 in a speech recorded from her offices at MIT during their virtual graduation ceremony on July 10.
Esther Duflo is the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics at MIT and a co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), where a number of BSE Alumni have taken their first career steps after graduating from the Master’s over the years.
Professor Duflo has received numerous academic honors and prizes including the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel (with co-Laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer) "for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty."
In addition to being the youngest researcher who has ever received the Economics Nobel and only the second woman to do so, Esther Duflo was also the first laureate of the Calvó-Armengol International Prize in Economics, co-organized by the BSE, and also the first Calvó-Armengol Prize Laureate to win the Nobel.
