Eye on Alumni: Elisa Greene '21
Elisa Greene ‘21 (Competition and Market Regulation) was the first recipient of the Barcelona School of Economics Alumni & Friend Merit Award. She now works as an Analyst at Oxera Consulting in London, a position she learned about at an event organized by BSE Career Services.
What does it mean to you to be the first recipient of this community-funded tuition scholarship?
I am very honored to be the first recipient of the Alumni & Friends Merit Award. Thanks to that, I could come to Barcelona and study for the Master’s Program in Competition and Market Regulation. A great thing about the Barcelona School of Economics is its strong community. There is a very good relationship between students, professors, and staff. Everyone is always there to help you when you need it.
One objective of the Merit Award is to attract talented candidates to the BSE Master’s programs. What are your impressions of the classmates you met here?
In the courses of the Master’s, I had the opportunity to work and study with my classmates who are all very talented people. It has also been great because they were from all over the world and from different backgrounds such as economics or law. It was a great experience.
You were working as an Economist in Chile when you applied for this Master’s. Why did you decide to go back to grad school, and why did you choose Barcelona School of Economics?
Five years ago, I finished my first Master’s in Economics in Chile and then I decided to get a bit of work experience before deciding if I wanted to study more. I worked in competition and regulation there, and then I was convinced that that was what I wanted to do in the future.
I decided to come to the Barcelona School of Economics and study the Master’s in Competition and Market Regulation because after a lot of looking around for programs I realized that this was the best one for me. The main reasons were that it is specialized in competition and regulation and also they have great professors, both practitioners, and academics.
How would you describe your experience studying at the Barcelona GSE?
My experience in the Master's has been great because I’ve learned a lot about the topics that are being discussed in policy right now all over the world. Also about the techniques and methodologies that are being used by experts and authorities.
I’ve had a really good experience doing my master’s at the Barcelona School of Economics because I’ve been learning from great professors. I met people from all over the world and also I got the chance to live in Barcelona which is a great city, with perfect weather and very good food. It has been great.
Now, you are working as an Analyst at Oxera Consulting.
Thanks to the event organized by BSE Career Services, I got a position in the competition team at Oxera Consulting in London. When I finished my Master’s, I took a few months of vacation to travel around Spain, and then I started at Oxera Consulting in September. We have worked on interesting and very challenging projects and I already had the opportunity to apply what I learned in the master's since the beginning.
