GSE Affiliated Professor Ferran Sancho becomes new UAB Rector

Prof. Ferran Sancho (UAB and BSE) was officially named Rector of the UAB in a ceremony on Friday, June 22.

Prof. Sancho, Professor of Economics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and BSE Affiliated Professor, has been appointed new Rector of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), an institution he already served as Vice-Rector between 1999-2002.

Prof. Sancho was Chair of the UAB Department of Economics, one of the four academic units of the BSE, from 2004 to 2010. He also served on the BSE’s Academic Programs Committee, which is the organ that academically validates the School’s educational activity and follows their development. He has also taught courses in the BSE’s master programs and in IDEA, one of the two PhD reference doctoral programs.

Prof. Sancho earned his MA in Economics at the University of California-Berkeley, and his PhD at the UAB. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of California-Berkeley (1992, 2002-03), the Institute for Applied Macroeconomics of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (1992), and the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (2010-11).

His research interests focus on computational economics with applications to fiscal policy and environmental issues. In addition to publishing articles in scholarly journals, in 2012 he co-authored the book Applied General Equilibrium: An Introduction (Springer Texts in Business and Economics).
